A Cooperative Framework for AI
CosyAI is a project to create a cooperative framework for the ownership, development, and use of AI.
We are currently building a coalition of organizations, companies, and people with a commitment to cooperating sincerely.
Our background are the insight from the Platform Coop movement, which has been exploring cooperative ownership models for digital technologies since more than a decade.
We now seek to broaden the coalition and invite a wider range of cooperative practitioners, community builders, and organizational designers as well as AI-experts, researchers, software developers, and others who share a deep concern for a safe and sincerely beneficial use of AI technologies.

Our Common Challenge
Artificial intelligence is advancing rapidly. Yet, our times of growing social and political polarization constitute a challenging background for bringing powerful artificial intelligence into the world.
Currently, AI development is dominated by growth-hungry corporations, framed by governments that are often stuck in power games and sometimes fall back to 20th-century-style geopolitics.
This is not an ideal setup for developing powerful AI that increasingly shapes the world for us and our children. Still, we can see it as a chance:
AI to promote cooperatives
We can use the increasing capabilities of AI for furthering cooperative practices and including people that have been marginalized by the current global economic system.
As a first step, we build a CosyAI Suite of safe AI tools based on existing generative AI models that meet commonly defined safety standards.
Cooperative AI models
In the next step, we will fine-tune generative AI models created by the open source community in order to build cooperative AI models that are specialized for the purposes of cooperative organizations.
The goal is to offer cooperatively hosted models that offer affordable conditions to cooperative users, while focusing on relevant capabilities.
We can thereby leverage the unique local knowledge and personal connections of cooperatives, building specific datasets that are managed by cooperative structures that we can trust.
A Basic Income backed by AI
As a vision, we seek to create a basic income for people who are both contributing to building a more cooperative world.
The plan for for this is simple: The CosyAI Cooperative will offer the CosyAI Suite of safe AI-based tools to individual users for flatrate subscriptions.
A part of the surplus the CosyAI cooperative makes from these subscriptions and its other products and services will be used to fund a basic income for selected members based on needs and contributions. Read more about the Cosy Basic Income vision.
